A metal screened transformer for matching the low impedance of better quality microphones to high impedance inputs. Takes a balanced low impedance mono signal input via a TRS 3-pole jack socket and outputs to high impedance "unbalanced" mono signal on a 2-pole mono male plug for connection to a standard aux or "line level" input.

When used at the input it will minimise noise and losses due to the mic lead.
